Two women stabbed to death at the Museum of Modern Art in New York

Two people were stabbed this Saturday at the prestigious Museum of Modern Art in New York (MOMA), causing the evacuation of the premises, the police reported.

The victims, two women that remain “in stable condition” were taken to nearby Bellevue Hospital, confirmed to AFP a spokesman for the Police Department of New York (NYPD).

According to the NBC network, the wounds are not life threatening women.

The police did not identify the victims of the attack that occurred at 4:16 p.m. local time (21:16 GMT).

The police spokesman told AFP that there were still no arrests and did not give details on what could be the motivation for the attack.

US media, however, reported that the police had identified a suspect.

In a tweet, the NYPD asked people to avoid the area where the MOMA “due to a police investigation.”

Multiple media and social media posts have shown images of recently evacuated people outside the museum, a popular tourist destination in the city.
