The New York Times clarifies that the journalist killed by Russian troops in Ukraine did not work for them

The American newspaper New York Times clarified this Sunday that the journalist Brent Renaud, who died in the Ukrainian town of Irpin, in western Kyivshot down by Russian forces, was not working for them at the time of the incident.

“Although I had contributed to the Times in the past (most recently in 2015), I was not working with any of our Times departments on Ukraine”, explained the newspaper in a brief statement.

Renaud’s death was initially confirmed by the Police of Kyivwho blamed the Russian forces for the event and stated that it was a journalist from the prestigious New York newspaper.

The “(Russian) invaders cynically kill even international media journalists who try to show the truth about the atrocities of Russian troops in Ukraine,” said the chief of police in the Kiev region, Andriy Nebitov,

“Today, a 51-year-old correspondent for the world famous New York Times was shot dead in Irpen. Another journalist was injured. They are currently trying to remove the victim from the combat zone.”Nebitov wrote on Facebook.
