The 26 million inhabitants of Jilin province, which borders Russia and North Korea, are banned from leaving the region, a guideline that was not applied in China since residents of the central province of Hubei, whose capital is Wuhan, were banned from leaving during the first outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020.

According to China’s still-current “zero dynamic covid” policy, all positive cases must be isolated in facilities set up for this purpose, which adds pressure to the hospital system in places where there are outbreaks.
