“We have no ammunition”: the claim of a Peruvian who fights for Ukraine

In the first week of March, Peruvian César Eduardo Pérez Farfán announced in several media outlets that he would voluntarily join the foreign legion that defends Ukraine of the Russian attack. Today, this Army graduate who served in the Vraem recounts the difficult situation he lives in the European country.

Outraged, the Peruvian narrates that at the Yavoriv base -border with Poland- they stopped giving him ammunition and other implements to face the war.

“Lack of discipline, organization and logistics at the base where I am. They did not give us vests, helmets or ammunition,” declared to Latina.

In the video published in the press, some small cuts can be seen on the face, a consequence of the bombing at the base where they are located, which blew up the moons of the place and forced them to hide in the forest.

Pérez Farfán, who joined the Ukrainian forces despite the fact that he was in Spain seeking to revitalize his career as a singer, explains that his decision was made out of compassion for the Ukrainians.

“My decision was to rescue civilians, not to kill Russians. They may say that no one called me, but my heart was outraged “explained the Peruvian who, at the moment, is in Poland.

“We have returned to Poland, we have left our weapons on the border, we are withdrawing because we have to recognize that Russian power exists,” said.

The situation in Yavoriv is critical. The AFP agency reported that a military base in that city was attacked on Saturday by a couple of dozen cruise missiles launched from bombers flying over Russia, killing 35 people and wounding 134 people.

Regarding the presence of foreigners fighting for Ukraine, it is estimated that thousands responded to the call of the government of Volodomir Zelenski.

“It is estimated that there are approximately 20,000. Most are European and North American. There are 500 from Belarus and also some Japanese volunteers.”Ed Arnold, a European Security researcher at the Royal United Services Institute in London, told DW.
