The United Nations confirms almost 850 civilians killed and 1,400 wounded in the Ukraine war

Nearly 850 Ukrainian civilians have been killed and 1,400 injured as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion, according to the latest updated balance of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, published this Saturday.

“Since 4:00 a.m. on February 24, when the armed attack by the Russian Federation against UkraineAs of 12:00 a.m. on March 18, the High Commissioner has recorded 2,246 civilian casualties in Ukraine: 847 dead and 1,399 wounded.” according to the report.

The deceased have been identified as 155 men, 119 women, 21 boys and seven girls, as well as 36 children and 509 adults pending identification. The injured have been identified as 142 men, 107 women, 18 girls and nine boys, as well as 51 children and 1,072 adults pending identification.

By control zones, the United Nations estimates 607 dead and 671 wounded in territory still controlled by the Ukrainian government, to which must be added 187 dead and 547 wounded in the areas under its control in the disputed regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, in the East of the country. In the area under the control of the militias of these self-proclaimed republics, the UN has confirmed 234 casualties (53 dead and 181 wounded).

The United Nations notes that the majority of civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons of “wide impact area”, through heavy artillery, the use of rocket platforms, as well as air strikes.

The UN points out that the real figures “They are considerably higher, especially in the territory controlled by the Government and especially in recent days”, due to the lack of information from some places where intense hostilities have taken place and many details of the casualties “are still pending corroboration”.

United Nations alsotake note” from the report of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, according to which as of 8:00 (local time) on March 19, 112 children had died and 140 had been injured.

The UN also acknowledges the existence of a report by the National Police of the Kharkov region, according to which at 6:00 p.m. (local time) on March 18, the total number of civilian casualties in the Kharkov region was 263 civilians. dead, including four children.
