One dead in Russian bombing of kyiv shopping mall, says mayor | VIDEO

At least one person was killed when Russian forces bombed a shopping mall in the capital on Sunday. ukrainian of kyiv, informed the mayor of the city.

A huge explosion rocked the city at the time of the attack and fires were seen in the rubble of the Retroville shopping mall, AFP journalists said.

“One death so far,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram network.

“The enemy bombardment” caused a fire in the shopping center in the northwestern district of Podilsky and left several cars on fire, the emergency services noted on Facebook.

Security camera footage released by emergency services showed a huge explosion and a cloud of smoke followed by several smaller explosions.

Firefighters pulled a man from the rubble, according to a video released by emergency services.

The soldiers cordoned off the area and asked the journalists to stand aside for fear of other explosives.

Residents of a residential building whose windows were shattered by the blast said they had seen mobile rocket launchers near the mall several days earlier.

kyiv has been hit by a series of attacks in the past week, one of which left five wounded on Sunday in an apartment building.

However, the Russian advance on kyiv has stalled. Russian forces engage in occasional fighting in northwestern and eastern Ukraine but with little progress for two weeks.
