Lego with the effigy of Volodymyr Zelensky are a hit

A fundraiser has been set up in the United States by the owner of Citizen Brick, a figurine manufacturing company. It raised no less than 145,388 dollars (just over 131,000 euros), intended to help citizens in Ukraine, reports the Huffington Post. “We thought it would be a good idea to try to do something for Ukraine and that we could solicit donations and send them to help people,” Joe Trupia, the company’s owner, told Reuters.

An unexpected success

The American entrepreneur has thus imagined figurines, which are not affiliated with the Lego brand but tolerated by the brick giant. The ones that went on sale for $100 depict Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in military uniform and sporting a three-day beard. A molotov cocktail in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, also in briquettes, was also put on sale for 20 dollars.

And the success was unexpected. The first batches were first sold to regular customers, before being snapped up on the Internet. “I really wish we could do more, but we weren’t really equipped for that,” adds Joe Trupia to the Washington Post. The latter did not wish to indicate how many figurines had been sold but claims to have collected 145,388 dollars. This sum will be donated to the association Direct Relief, which has been sending medical aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion.
