Ukraine claims to have destroyed a Russian warship in the Sea of Azov

the navy of Ukraine claimed on Thursday to have destroyed a Russian military transport ship anchored in the port of Berdyansk, a city near the besieged Mariupol in the Sea of Azov (southeast).

“The ship of troop carrier Orsk has been destroyed in the occupied port of Berdyansk. Glory to Ukraine!”the navy wrote on its Facebook account.

Along with the message, they published a photograph of a large undamaged ship and two others, from afar, of the smoke in the port and of a ship on firealthough it cannot be clearly distinguished which boat it is.

The information could not be immediately verified and the Russian military does not usually give information about its combat losses.

The Russian agency Tass, citing the Zvezda television channel of the Russian Defense Ministry, had indicated that this transport ship belonged to the Moscow Black Sea Fleet and was the first to arrive in Berdyansk on March 21.

“The arrival of this great landing ship in the port of Berdyansk It is an important event, which opens possibilities for the Black Sea in logistical matters, fully using the Berdyansk infrastructure”they said on the Zvezda chain.

The ship, with a capacity of 1,500 tons of cargo, “is unloading armored vehicles in front of our eyes that will reinforce our deployment,” added the same source.

Berdyansk is located 80 km west of the strategic port of Mariupol, that the Russian troops try to take from the beginning of the invasion on February 24 and has been under siege since the end of that month.
