USA: 80 vehicles collide on Pennsylvania highway and six deaths are reported [VIDEO]

A spectacular car crash involving at least 80 vehicles left 6 dead and dozens injured on one of the main highways in Pennsylvania, in United States. The snowfall, product of the bad weather that hits the country, would have caused drivers to collide en masse.

This fatal outcome occurred last Monday morning, and in the first instance only three deaths had been reported; however, the state police in Frackvilleincreased the figure this Wednesday, notes the San Diego Union Tribute.

“There were six fatalities in this crash. We will disclose the identities of the victims once the next of kin are notified.”authorities said in a statement.

The massive crash on the highway Pottsville Countyon Interstate 81, between exits 107 and 119, happened around 10:30 a.m. and involved 39 commercial vehicles and 41 passenger vehicles, bringing the total to 80.

At least 24 people were rushed to hospital after the crash. The snow impeded the view of the drivers, who arrived at full speed to find trailers and private vehicles collided.

A video shared on social networks shows two heavy-duty trucks colliding one after another, while a third vehicle manages to avoid it to go off the road. Another truck catches fire, emitting thick black smoke.

the police of Pennsylvania reported that a tanker truck was on fire, while another video showed fire crews working to put out the fire from the accident.

Some vehicles were even completely consumed and melted into the pavement, which made clearance tasks difficult.

Only this Wednesday was the section of highway 1-81 reopened, after the crews finished clearing the road.
