Russia offers to help evacuate foreigners from Mariupol

Russia will offer help to evacuate foreign citizens from the Ukrainian city of Mariupoleast of the country, reported a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry this Sunday, according to the official Tass agency.

“In accordance with the request of the President of the Republic of Turkey to the President of the Russian Federation, a decision was made to provide full assistance in the evacuation of foreign citizens held hostage by the remaining militants of the nationalist battalions. in certain areas of Mariupol”, added the head of the Russian National Defense Control Center, Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev.

The Russian military spokesman said that carrying out “a humanitarian operation is only possible with the full assistance of the kyiv authorities for the passage of a humanitarian convoy from Mariupolthe strict observance of the ‘regime of silence’ during the evacuation, as well as the elimination of the threat of bombing”, according to the Interfax agency.

He added that “As of 00:00 Moscow time on April 3 (22:00 GMT on Saturday), the Russian army opens a humanitarian corridor of Mariupol to Berdyansk, guaranteeing compliance with the ‘regime of silence’ on the route”he added.

Foreign citizens can be evacuated from Berdyansk along any humanitarian routes: by land transport to the Republic of Crimea or to territories controlled by the kyiv regime, as well as by sea transport to selected addresses, Mizintsev said, according to Interfax.

“The Russian Federation is ready to ensure the entry of the ships involved in the evacuation to the port of Berdyansk and the exit from it in accordance with the norms of international maritime law”he added.

The spokesman added that Russia appeals to international organizations”to force the Ukrainian authorities to notify in writing before 03:00 Moscow time on April 3 (00:00 GMT on Sunday) that they are prepared to carry out the evacuation.”

According to Mizintsev, the written guarantees of the Ukrainian authorities must be sent to Russia, Turkey, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
