Two people were killed and a dozen injured today in a shooting in the city center Israeli from Tel-Aviv. The attacker is still on the run and the security forces ask citizens to remain locked up in their homes while they continue with the search and capture tasks.

Two men in their 30s were declared dead after being evacuated to hospital, three injured are in serious condition and four others suffered minor injuries, according to the Israeli emergency service Magem David Adom (MDA).

All this occurred after an attacker carried out a serious shooting at various points in downtown Tel Aviv, including a bar, which sowed chaos and panic in the coastal city.

Images broadcast by the media and social networks showed people running through the streets and the police trying to catch the aggressor.

This the fourth attack in Israel in just over two weeks and further escalates the spike in tension generated after three attacks by Arab-Israeli citizens and a Palestinian that resulted in eleven deaths in a few days.

In relation to today’s shooting, the identity of the attacker and the motives for the attack are still unclear, and the authorities have not yet confirmed whether it is linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

More than a thousand police officers, special units and Army soldiers were deployed on the ground to catch the aggressor, and the Police appealed to the population to remain calm and “avoid the dissemination of unsubstantiated messages and information that could generate more panic.”

After the incident, the sirens of ambulances and emergency services marked the atmosphere in the center of Tel Aviv, while passers-by sought shelter and the injured were evacuated to hospital, where some underwent emergency operations.

Today’s shooting occurs after a recent escalation of tension in the region, following three attacks in a few days in Israel – two of them claimed by the Islamic State – which led to one of the episodes with the most fatalities in the country in matter of years.

Like the previous attacks, today’s was also celebrated by the Islamist movement Hamas, the de facto ruler of the Gaza Strip, although it did not claim responsibility for the shooting, nor did any other Palestinian armed group.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Benet agreed “continue to reinforce and send large-scale forces to Tel Aviv” to “locate the terrorist”, after a meeting with senior officials of the security and defense apparatus.

Today’s attack comes during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, as Israeli security forces expect tens of thousands of Palestinian worshipers from the occupied West Bank tomorrow for Friday prayers at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
