Bukele says that margin of “error” in arrests in El Salvador can be 1%

These arrests are part of the more than 8,500 arrests reported by the authorities after an escalation of violence that at the end of last month claimed the lives of more than 80 people and made March 26 the bloodiest day in the recent history of The Saviorwith 62 murders.

In recent days, social organizations and the Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office have reported more than 100 complaints of alleged violations, mainly of “arbitrary arrests” by the security forces.

The gangs, a phenomenon considered to be a legacy of the Salvadoran civil war (1980-1992) and which was strengthened by the deportation of gang members from the United States, have resisted the security plans implemented in the last four administrations and generated spikes in violence through through the years.
