Argentina recovers historical book of 1735 sought by the Government of Peru and that was sold for US $ 3,200

The book “El Sol y Año Feliz del Perú”, a work by the author Pedro Rodríguez Guillén, from 1735, which was wanted by the Peruvian Government, was found in the possession of an antiquarian in the capital of Argentinaas reported on Tuesday by the Police of the city of Buenos Aires.

In the same procedure, historical documents from Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Italy and France were recovered, all copies that enjoy an “invaluable” character due to their historical richness, the statement added.

The case arose as a result of an alert issued by the Ministry of Culture of Argentina due to the theft of assets belonging to the Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Perusources reported.

The National Economic Criminal Court Number 8, in charge of Gustavo Meirovich, ordered the Money Laundering and Customs Crimes Division of the Police of the city of Buenos Aires a series of investigative tasks to find the book.

Investigators came across a posting on a new and used book sales website, where the book was being offered for more than 3,000 euros (more than $3,260).

The seller offered it as an old book in excellent condition with period features and he reviewed it as “one of the few and great American holiday books, whose author, the Franciscan brother Pedro Rodríguez Guillén, describes in detail the pompous celebrations held in Lima on the occasion of the canonization of San Francisco Solano”, as detailed.

Confirming that it was the stolen property, the court ordered a search of the home in the Recoleta neighborhood of the city of Buenos Aires.

In the raid -carried out by the Money Laundering and Customs Crimes Division of the Police of the city of Buenos Aires with the collaboration of the Non-Economic Prohibitions and Trademark Fraud Division of the General Directorate of Customs- the recovery of the sought copy was achieved.

OTHER FINDINGS

Also found in the raid “a large number of books, manuscripts dating from the 16th century, all from Peru, France, Spain, Mexico and Argentina,” the statement said.

For this reason, the magistrate decided to extend the procedure ordering the closure of the place and sequestration of all the materials found: 109 historical documents from Argentina, 72 books and 42 manuscripts from Peru, Mexico, Italy and France.
