Germany seizes the world’s largest yacht, owned by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov

Germany Officially seized the world’s largest yacht, owned by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, on Thursday as part of sanctions against Moscow over the war in Ukraineaccording to a police source.

The yacht “Dilbar”, 156 meters long and with an estimated value of about 600 million dollars (according to Forbes magazine) was being repaired in Hamburg since October 2021.

German customs had been investigating its owner for several weeks since he was hiding behind companies in tax havens.

But “after long investigations”, the German judicial police managed to identify its owner, Alisher Usmanov’s sister, Gulbajor Ismailova, who was also in the crosshairs of European sanctions.

His brother, 68, was listed in 2021 as the sixth richest person in the UK, according to the Sunday Times.

Dozens of yachts belonging to Russian oligarchs were seized in the wake of Western sanctions.
