Six people who were shipwrecked due to a major storm were rescued yesterday after spending 17 days on an island in the Amazon Brazilian. As in a movie, the crew asked for help through a message in a bottle and thanks to this they could be found.

According to Tribuna Ribeirao, the boat left Santarém on March 24 bound for Chavez municipality, but the crew was surprised by a great storm and had to seek shelter on a beach. However, once on the island, known as La Flecha, the ship suffered a fire in the kitchen, for which the group was shipwrecked.

According to local media, during the days they remained on the island the group had to ration the food they were carrying on the boat and drink rainwater. After almost two weeks, two castaways had the idea of ​​asking for help through a note in a bottle.

“Help! Help! We need help. Our boat caught fire. We have been on the island of Flechas for 13 days, without food. Let our family know.” could be read in the note of the castaways. The message inside the bottle also included some contact numbers for her relatives, according to a photo released by the Navy.

Fortunately, some fishermen found the bottle and after reading the distress message they alerted the local authorities.

As a result, the Navy set up a joint rescue operation with some state agencies and they were able to find the disappeared, who were quickly helped and transferred to Belém in a helicopter.

As detailed by the Navy to local media, the crew members were in “good general health”, although they were transferred to an Emergency Care Unit in the Sacramenta neighborhood to be treated.

Meanwhile, local authorities will launch an investigation to determine the causes and circumstances of the accident that occurred weeks ago, which led to a movie story.
