The gigantic line of more than 80 km formed by the last Russian cargo trucks to leave the European Union

A long line of trucks of more than 80 km accumulate like ants between the border between Poland and Belarus.

In some cases, it took up to 33 hours for truckers to cross.

Huge queues were also reported in Lithuania.

And it is that this Sunday the deadline for cargo transport from Belarus and Russia to leave the territory of the European Union (EU) expired, as part of the bloc’s sanctions for the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine

The EU has banned trucks from Russia and Belarus from entering or staying in the bloc, except those carrying medicines, mail or petroleum products.

Drone footage presented by the Reuters news agency showed long queues remaining as Saturday’s midnight deadline approached.

This Sunday, waiting times were reduced to 12 hours, according to the BBC’s Adam Easton in Warsaw.

However, it is unclear what will happen to thousands of other trucks from the two countries estimated to be currently on EU territory.

One possibility is that they will be seized by national authorities.

A Polish official representing transport groups expressed concern that such a move could lead to similar measures against Polish trucks used by Russia and Belarus on their way home.

The EU, and many other Western countries, have imposed punitive sanctions against Russia and its main ally, Belarus.
