Sources close to the counselor confirmed to Efe that Archila presented his resignation during the council of ministers held today by President Duque, who will conclude his term in less than four months, and is waiting for the head of state to accept the letter.

The main function of counselor Archila was the implementation of the peace agreement signed in November 2016 by the Colombian government and the now demobilized FARC guerrilla.

In addition, it promoted the Development Programs with a Territorial Approach (PDET), which are the axis of the Peace with Legality policy, which is how the Duque government calls implementation.

The 16 PDETs, which cover 170 municipalities, seek to transform the territories most affected by violence, poverty, illicit economies and institutional weakness within the fifteen-year execution period.

Archila was part of the delegation that accompanied the head of state last week on his trip to New York where he presented to the United Nations Security Council the achievements in the implementation of the peace agreement signed by Duque’s predecessor, Juan Manuel Santos, with the FARC.

The lawyer is one of the closest officials to President Duque, who even appointed him in May of last year as coordinator of the team that managed to negotiate an arrangement with the National Unemployment Committee to lift the protests against the government.

After leaving the government, Archila will return to academic activity, presumably at the Externado de Colombia University Law School, where he obtained a law degree and later became a professor.
