The Ukrainian authorities reported this Tuesday that they have already located a total of 420 bodies of citizens of Buchaa town in the kyiv region where Russian troops carried out a massacre of civilians before withdrawing, according to the Government of Ukraine.

“The police of the kyiv region continue to work. Until Saturday night, more than 420 bodies were found, only in Bucha, ”said regional police chief Andriy Nebytov, according to his press service on his Facebook page.

Nebytov added that the authorities have managed to establish the identities of most of these citizens who died in Bucha during the Russian occupation.

“And many citizens, more than 200 (in the kyiv region) have disappeared, according to the information we have,” he stressed.

However, the police officer could not specify the real number of missing and deceased, since “there are citizens who have left and file complaints, even from abroad” that they have not been able to verify.

Nebytov specified that there are also more than 300 bodies throughout the kyiv region that have not yet been identified, in a process that, as he clarified, “is carried out in accordance with Ukrainian procedural law.”

“We always take DNA samples. Many family members report the disappearance of their acquaintances or relatives, but they are abroad, so it is not yet possible to take DNA samples from them, ”he lamented.

“But we hope to identify one hundred percent of all the people who were killed by the Russian army in the kyiv region,” Nebytov stressed.

Bucha and other towns near the Ukrainian capital were heavily bombed by Russian troops after the beginning of the invasion of the country on February 24.

The Ukrainian troops managed to recover those territories after the withdrawal of the Russians and found in some of the localities as Bucha mass graves with hundreds of civilian bodies in what some NGOs and the kyiv government believe could constitute evidence of war crimes committed by Moscow.
