40-year-old man stabs 15-year-old to death at his California school

A 15-year-old girl was stabbed to death Monday on a high school campus in California in an apparently random attack, authorities said.

The teenager was stabbed multiple times around 11 a.m. in the stagg high schoolin Stocktonin the Central Valley of Californiaand died at a hospital, Stockton Unified School District Superintendent John Ramirez Jr. said at a news conference.

His name was not immediately released.

The attacker, a man in his 40s, was quickly apprehended.. His name was not revealed.

The man drove to school and walked through a campus gate.police said.

He attacked before security and staff could stop him, Ramírez said.

“We will definitely re-evaluate” campus security, he said.

The school was closed after the stabbing.

Police initially said the teenager appeared to have been premeditatedly attacked. But Officer Joe Silva told the Sacramento Bee Monday night that detectives now believe it was a random act.

The motive for the murder remains under investigation, police said.
