Canada announces it will provide heavy artillery to Ukraine to fight Russia

Prime Minister of CanadaJustin Trudeau, confirmed on Wednesday that his country will provide Ukraine heavy artillery to respond to the Russian offensive in the donbasalthough he did not offer details of when the delivery of the military material will take place.

During a press conference, the Canadian leader said that the decision to send heavy artillery to Ukraine comes after the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyask Ottawa for this particular material.

Nevertheless, Trudeau was reluctant to offer details of the shipment of that military equipmentwhich he framed “in the context of an illegal Russian war.”

The Canadian prime minister added that he has to be careful with the information but that he trusts that in the coming days he will be able to provide more details “about what is being sent and what has already been sent.”

Trudeau ended by pointing out that Canada is responding directly to the main request of Ukraine “in this phase of the war”, in which Russia is trying to gain control of much of the east of the country.

This Tuesday, Zelensky published a letter stating that if Ukraine had access to all the weapons it has requested from its allies, the war would be over by now.

Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tweeted Wednesday that Ottawa and Washington are working “to ensure that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s regime pays the full cost of his brutal war.” and that Ukraine is victorious.”

The decision of Canada to send heavy artillery to Ukraine It comes shortly after Trudeau spoke Tuesday with US President Joe Biden and European leaders to discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
