Poland estimates almost 3 million Ukrainian refugees welcomed since the beginning of the Russian invasion

The Polish Border Guard confirmed this Sunday that almost three million Ukrainian refugees have crossed the border since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24.

Approximately 2.9 million Ukrainians have left their country for Poland at some point since the start of hostilities, although in recent days Polish border authorities have noted that the number of returnees to Ukraine has begun to exceed new entries.

Without going any further, this Saturday 15,100 Ukrainian refugees entered Poland, but 21,100 returned to their country of origin, completing approximately 850,000 since the beginning of the war.

More than 900,000 Ukrainians have applied for a Polish identity card since the beginning of the conflict.

The total number of refugees fleeing from the war in Ukraine has exceeded the threshold of five million, a milestone that the UN already feared in the days after the invasion ordered on February 24 by the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and that threatens to continue growing if there is no ceasefire.

The international organization has also registered 774,000 arrivals in Romania, 489,000 in Hungary, 433,000 in Moldova and 354,000 in Slovakia, according to data from this Sunday. In addition, some 578,000 people have arrived in Russia, although the local authorities raise the figure above 800,000.
