The two pit bulls, about three and a half years old, had been with the family since they were puppies and had never behaved aggressively.

At the time of the attack, both dogs were outdoors, had just bathed and were allowed to enter the house, then one of them began to bite the minor’s leg.

The family suspects that the girl had a dog toy, which would have caused the attack.

The stabbed dog died, while the other was taken away by animal control authorities. That dog will be euthanized, the family said.
