The North Korean government announced the first cases of covid-19 reported in the country last week and, since then, has already reported nearly two million cases of “fever” and 63 deaths, while the virus continues to spread among the population, which is not vaccinated.

The state media did not specify how many of those infected or deceased had tested positive for covid-19but experts point out that the country, which has a poor health system, could be unable to carry out large-scale diagnostic tests.

So much Korea of the South What China they offered to help Pyongyang fight the outbreak.

At the moment, according to the South Korean authorities, its neighbor to the north has not yet responded to its offer.

There was also no official confirmation by or from China nor of Korea of the Northbut it seems that Pyongyang accepted the help offered by Beijing by sending three Air Koryo cargo planes to Shenyang (northeast of China) to obtain medical supplies, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported this week.

The planes, of the Soviet-made IL-76 model, can carry up to 50 tons of cargo, according to Yonhap.

The agency indicated, citing anonymous sources, that the air route was chosen instead of the land route to “accelerate the transport of such a large cargo.”

The specialized portal NK News, based in Seoul, indicated this Thursday that satellite images showed three planes “with dimensions that coincide with those of the IL-76 at the Shenyang airport on Monday morning.”

Other footage shows that the planes were “taken to a remote part of the Pyongyang airport,” NK News reported, where goods were apparently “unloaded from the planes.”

Representatives from Shenyang Airport and Air Koryo in Shanghai indicated a AFP that they had no information on flights from Korea of the North.
