China registers one death and 187 new cases of coronavirus, 174 of them local

The National Health Commission of China reported this Monday a new death due to the covid-19 in the eastern metropolis of Shanghai, and the detection of 187 new positives for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus the day before, 174 of them due to local contagion.

The areas with the highest number of cases of community transmission were beijing (83), Shanghai (55) and tianjin (north, 32).

Chinawhich applies a severe policy of “zero tolerance” to the new coronavirusis going through a wave of outbreaks attributed to the omicron variant that is causing record numbers of infections not seen since the start of the pandemic in the first half of 2020.

The health authorities also reported today the detection of 682 asymptomatic cases, 628 of them local (the majority in Shanghai), although they are not counted as confirmed cases unless they show symptoms.

The National Health Commission also detailed that, until last local midnight (4:00 p.m. GMT on Sunday), 316 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid.

The total number of active infected in the China continental amounts to 4,275, 193 of them in serious condition.

According to the institution’s accounts, since the start of the pandemic, 223,332 people have been infected in the country and 5,223 have died.

To date, medical follow-up has been carried out on more than 4 million close contacts with those infected, of which some 244,000 are still under observation.
