The old man lives in a precarious shack built of cans and wood that do not protect him from the cold at night and early in the morning. He does not have electricity, water or anything to cook with, according to the newspaper El Tiempo.

He is alone, his children, each with their own economic problems and unemployment, cannot help him.

Recently, criminals even stole his work material and stabbed him.

Because of all this, she decided to ask for help from the Bogota mayor’s office (at the Secretariat for Social Integration), but received no support. He knocked on other doors for help and was always denied any assistance.

“The problem is that I have neither electricity nor water. I had to send my son to a relative, I sent my daughter to Restrepo and my other son is also unemployed, so it is a difficult situation that we have experienced, “ said the older adult, according to the La Semana newspaper.

So, he decided to dig his own grave.

In the middle of his house he made a hole and when it was deep enough he decided to go in with the intention of making visible what he and the older adults in the area suffer.

He was in the hole for several hours, buried up to his neck. The Official Fire Department of Bogotá and the Ministry of Health entered his home to rescue him and take him to the hospital.

He spent the night hospitalized and is under medical supervision, but when he is discharged, if no one helps him, he will return to the precarious and undignified life that led him to dive into a hole.
