A five-year-old boy broke a giant Teletubbie and his father had to pay a fortune

Some before and after photos of the reproduction of a giant porcelain Teletubbie, in a toy store in Hong Kong, went viral this weekend, after a child carelessly broke it. The boy’s father had to pay more than $4,000 for the damage.

As can be seen in the video images of the premises, the boy, who was out for a walk with his family surnamed Cheng, leaned on the 1.70 m golden sculpture. and that’s when it fell and shattered. This happened on Sunday at a toy store in the Langham Place shopping mall, in the Mongkok district of Hong Kong, China, according to the report. Daily Mail.

At that time, the boy’s father was talking on the phone outside the premises and entered when he heard the noise. “My son was motionless, just looking at the toy. He was so terrified after the incident that he had to skip school. He asked me why the sculpture was scary”, the man told several local media.

As the store staff, KK Plus, initially warned her that her son had purposely broken the sculpture by kicking it, paid the cost price of $4,255. Later, when accessing the security videos of the premises, she saw that actually the boy threw the doll without realizing it. Also, he said they should have protected the sculpture by labeling it fragile.

The store owners claimed that the compensation for the statue had been “mutually agreed upon”. The incident sparked a wide debate on social media about who was ultimately responsible for the damage. Some accused the employees of not having protected the sculpture and of wanting to defraud the father by saying that his son had kicked it.

Others indicated that the parents should have taken more care of the little one because even in that carelessness he could hurt himself and cut himself with the broken porcelain.
