This system, according to the Ukrainian agency Ukrinform, is an upgrade of an old Russian 220mm multiple rocket launcher system capable of using thermobaric warheads and that it can be mounted on a tank chassis.

“Maybe it’s time to respond and give us MLRS?”, wonders Podolyak, referring to long-range mobile rocket launcher systems, after pointing out that some partners of Ukraine They have not wanted to provide these types of weapons for fear of an escalation in the conflict.

His complaint comes on the same day that the American television network CNN has announced that the government of Joe Biden is preparing to send this type of weaponry to Ukraine, more advanced than the one it has been providing to the Ukrainian authorities so far.

Citing unidentified government officials as a source, CNN assured that the Administration Biden could announce, as early as next week, shipment to Ukraine of such systems, known as MLRS, for its acronym in English, within a broader military assistance package to defend against the Russian invasion.

Another of the advanced rocket launchers requested by the Ukrainian authorities from the US and which Washington could start sending them is the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), from the same family as MLRSmobile, lighter and can also launch long-range rockets.

The rocket launchers provided to Ukraine so far have a much smaller range than the MLRS and that its lighter version, the HIMARSwhich are fired from a vehicle and They have a maximum range of 300 km.depending on the type of ammunition, which would allow the Ukrainians to more easily attack targets inside Russia.
