Iván Duque calls on Colombians to “vote well” in the second presidential round

“What Colombia have to do is vote and vote well, based on proposals and ideas. On the basis that Colombia is absolutely clear about what are the proposals that are best for the country“, said Duke in statements from the headquarters of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in Washington.

The outgoing president denied that the opponents in the second round are not part of traditional politics, since He pointed out that Petro “has been in several elections and has been in political activity for many years,” while Hernández “has been in the administration of a Colombian city,” Bucaramanga.

“We hope that in the weeks that remain before the final election in the second round, the Colombian people have a healthy, productive, transparent debate and, above all, that it is not fueled by false news, hate or biased accusations”said.

Duke he traveled to the United States to meet with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro; the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone; and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

After his meeting at the IMF, Duque claimed that “Colombia has always presented a horizon of fiscal responsibility”, which is “in the right direction”.

According to Duque, Georgieva highlighted Colombia’s economic growth, the reduction of multidimensional poverty and the decrease in the rate of labor informality.

Regarding the appointment of a US ambassador to Colombia, after the departure of the current head of the legation, Philip Goldberg, Duque recalled that several procedures must be passed, but he hoped that “the process will move forward very soon.”

The US government announced yesterday the appointment of diplomat Francisco Palmieri as interim business manager in Colombia before Goldberg’s next departure, who will move to South Korea.
