US Police Identify ‘Pillowcase Rapist’, 1980s Serial Abuse

The Broward County Police Open Cases Unit in South Florida (USA), identified this Tuesday what he described as a “serial rapist” who acted in the region in the mid-1980s.

It is known that the so-called “pillowcase rapist” attacked six women, but it is feared that more were the possible victims of Robert Kohlerwhose name was released today.

County Office of Broward indicated in a statement that in June 1984 a woman who lived in an apartment in Pompano Beach suffered a “cruel and violent” attack at home, where was “brutally raped at knifepoint” by a man who broke into her apartment.

This was just one of the cases of this rapist who ‘terrorized South Florida’ where dozens of women reported having been victims of a man who followed this same pattern of action, although so far he is only accused of six cases of sexual assault.

The Open Cases Unit began to connect the dots in 2019 when Sergeant Kami Floyd began investigating thousands of sexual assault cases from the 1980s and connected several similar cases.

On those dates, prosecutors from neighboring Miami-Dade County announced the arrest of Kohler for a sexual offense and Floyd requested a sample of the suspect’s DNA and analysis showed that it was related to the cases of Broward.

Koehler is in custody in Miami-Dade and will soon be transferred to Broward County to face the charges against him.

“On at least eight occasions in 1984 and 1985, detectives believe that Koehler snuck into homes in Broward County late at night or in the early morning hours through open doors and attacked his victims while they slept. or they were preparing to go to bed,” the police said in a statement.

The nickname “pillowcase rapist” is due to the fact that he sometimes covered the heads of his victims or his own in this way.

According to the authorities, Koehler threatened the women with killing them or their family members before raping and robbing them. and it became a very mediatic case at the time, but due to lack of evidence it was forgotten until now.

The Police have asked the population to contact them if they believe that they could be victims of the accused, as they fear that there may be more victims who have not yet shared their stories.
