A US delivery woman saves the life of a client who had slipped on the door of her house

When a woman in the state of Massachusetts, USAordered a pizza on a Friday night, did not know that the person in charge of bringing the food It would end up saving his life. Caryn Hebert Sullivan placed the call to place her order on the afternoon of February 11, and the delivery person, Sophia Furtado, delivered the order to an address in the small town of West Island Fairhaven. What would happen minutes later is viral on social networks.

“It was a normal night for me,” Furtado told CNN news network. But when he got home around 10 pm, saw Sullivan lying on the ground outside, with his head bleeding. Sullivan, who previously had an injured arm and a bad knee, was waiting for the delivery.

When he turned around, his arm and knee gave way. He fell and hit his head. “I just remember lying in my driveway thinking ‘This is it,'” Sullivan recalled. “I was lying there and I saw a lot of white clouds.”

Furtado has medical knowledge from her time training as an emergency medical technician, but had failed the National Registry test. Immediately, she noticed that Sullivan’s blood was clotting and she estimated that she had been lying outside for 15 to 20 minutes.

He saved his client’s life.

“Caryn was unresponsive and her eyes kept rolling back,” Furtado said. “I felt I was going to lose her”, he added. Sullivan’s husband, Robert, was sleeping inside the house but woke up to calls for help from Furtado. She asked him to get some things while she called 911.

According to Officer Jillian Jodoin of the Fairhaven Police Department, Furtado spoke with the dispatcher while rendering assistance. “At that time, Sophia became part of our team to help Caryn”.

“I asked him if it was possible for him to continue stabilizing Caryn’s neck to keep her spine safe, his answer was: ‘I’m not going anywhere,'” Jodoin told the aforementioned outlet.

Shortly after, the police and the ambulance with the paramedics began to arrive. Furtado stayed with her until Sullivan was taken to the nearest hospital.

Sullivan said that after the incident he was hospitalized three weeks and suffered two serious brain hemorrhages. Robert and his daughter, Veronica, were by his side the entire time. At one point, she said they were both there until 2 am to find out if she would make it.

recovery and friendship

After several weeks hospitalized, Sullivan came home in March. “He couldn’t drive, he couldn’t write, he could barely walk,” she said. Although she was considered fully recovered at the end of March, she is still working on some things after losing 60% of her hearing, and she can now drive short distances.

Despite the terrifying experience, Sullivan and Furtado they became friends.

“I’m so thankful for her, she’s my guardian angel,” Sullivan said, “Thank God she was there, if she hadn’t been, she’d be dead.”. The two met each other’s families and Sullivan even gave Furtado’s two children Easter gifts.

Rewards for Furtado

Furtado was recognized at a ceremony this week. The delivery app she works for, DoorDash, awarded him a US$1,000 educational grant.

“We are incredibly grateful to Mrs. Furtado for stepping in during a critical time and relieved that the client recovered safely.” “Ms. Furtado’s attentiveness and quick response was nothing short of heroic and we are honored to be able to show our appreciation for her tremendous effort,” said a spokesperson for the app.

Fairhaven Police also presented him with an award for saving lives. “Sophia sprang into action, alerted Robert, activated the emergency response system, deployed the necessary materials, provided assistance and assisted the policemen to speed up the collection of information. He saved a life,” the Police Department said.

“I didn’t expect it at all, I would have done it for anyone,” he said. Furtado had previously been a host for the delivery app and returned to work in January. He hopes to use the money for more studies as an Emergency Medical Technician when your family achieves financial stability. She and Sullivan will continue to stay in touch and plan to meet again.
