Gabriel Boric says that the triumph of Gustavo Petro in Colombia is a “joy for Latin America”

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, affirmed this Sunday that the victory of the leftist Gustavo Petro in Colombia is a “joy for Latin America”, after calling him to offer his congratulations.

“We will work together for the unity of our continent in the challenges of a rapidly changing world. We continue!”the Chilean president published through his Twitter account.

The left will win the presidency of Colombia for the first time after the triumph obtained this Sunday in the second electoral round by the economist, former guerrilla fighter and former mayor of Bogotá, Gustavo Petro, of the Historical Pact coalition.

Petro, candidate of the leftist coalition Historical Pact, obtained 11,270,944 votes, equivalent to 50.49%, while his rival, the independent populist Rodolfo Hernández, of the Anti-Corruption Governors League, reached 10,549,290 votes (47, 26%) with 99.74% of the tables informed, according to bulletin number 21 of the National Registry.

With this victory, Petro, 62, will succeed the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, from next August 7, and will govern in the period 2022-2026.
