The number of deaths in protests in Ecuador increases to five

The number of deaths in the context of the protests in Ecuador due to the high cost of living, it was raised this Friday to five after confirming the death by firearm of one of the participants in an attack on a military convoy that left 17 soldiers wounded.

This was reported at a press conference by Interior Minister Patricio Carrillo, who again denied that the Police had any responsibility for the five deaths reported by human rights organizations since the start of the protests on June 13.

In its latest report, offered at noon this Friday, the Alliance of Organizations for Human Rights of Ecuador also recorded five missing persons and 166 injured people, as well as a total of 64 human rights violations.

This alliance also records 108 arrests, including those of the indigenous leader Leonidas Iza, the main promoter of the protestswho was arrested after the first day of mobilizations and spent almost a day in prison until a judge released him on parole with charges of alleged paralysis of essential services.
