Intelligence services consider shooting in Oslo a “terrorist act”

The intelligence service of Norway said Saturday that he was dealing with the shooting near a gay bar in downtown Oslo as an “act of Islamist terrorism”.

The suspect, arrested shortly after the attack that left two dead and 21 injured, “has a long history of violence and threats” and the intelligence service has him on its radar “since 2015 due to concerns regarding his radicalization” and his belonging ” to an Islamist network”, declared the head of the intelligence services, Roger Berg.

The Norwegian police indicated that the suspect was a 42-year-old Norwegian of Iranian origin known to the intelligence services, but also for lesser crimes.

According to Berg, the intelligence services had spoken with him last month, but did not consider at the time that he had “violent intentions.”

The intelligence service also acknowledges “difficulties related to his mental health,” he said.

Intelligence services also raised the threat level, calling the situation “extraordinary.”
