A third earthquake shakes the Algerian city of Oran again

A third earthquake of a magnitude of 4 degrees on the open Richter scale was recorded this Sunday in the town of Gdyel, in the Algerian province of Oran, a city that hosts the competitions of the XIX edition of the Games for ten days. This third earthquake occurred exactly at 9:34 p.m. local time (8:34 p.m. GMT), one hour after a first 5.1-magnitude earthquake shook the city at 8:17 p.m. (7:17 p.m. GMT) followed by a 3.2-magnitude aftershock, 42 ​​minutes after the first tremor.

The medium-intensity earthquakes have not caused casualties but have caused cracks in various apartments and buildings in the town of Arzew (40 kilometers east of the province), the APS news agency reported.

“Immediately after the earthquake, the Civil Protection services, under the supervision of Colonel Souiki Mahfouz, carried out an outing throughout the region to learn about the situation, mobilizing all material and human resources,” the source reported.

The epicenter of the three tremors was located about twelve kilometers north of the town of Gdyel, located 23 kilometers east of Oran, a city that yesterday held a great artistic show during the official opening of the JM in which 3,390 athletes participate. representing 26 countries, including Spain.
