They give 25 years in prison to a man who raped and infected a minor with HIV in Bolivia

Justice Bolivian sentenced a man who sexually abused and infected a 14-year-old adolescent in the eastern region of Santa Cruz to 25 years in prison, the State Attorney General’s Office reported this Sunday.

The 29-year-old man, identified as Epifanio PQ, must serve the sentence at the Center for Productive Rehabilitation in the locality of Montero, where the case was registered, explained the departmental prosecutor of Santa CruzRoger Mariaca, according to a press release from the Public Ministry.

The evidence presented by the prosecution at the hearing included “The medical examination that confirms that the minor is HIV-positive, the forensic medical examination of the victim, the psychological and social report, in addition to the fact that Epifanio accepted his responsibility and requested to submit to the alternative release of the abbreviated procedure,” Mariaca said.

The abbreviated procedure supposes an admission of guilt and the man was sentenced for the crimes of rape of an infant, child or adolescent with aggravation.

Blood tests revealed that the teenager was HIV positive and then he decided to tell his mother that he met Epifanio PQ a year ago through social media, Illanes said.

The man cited the minor in a bathroom in a market in Montero, where he raped him, according to the same source.

The mother reported the event to the Special Force to Fight Violence (FELCV) of Montero, whose agents mobilized to apprehend the subject and make him available to the Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding investigation.

Last month the country was shocked to learn of another similar case in which four men who were brothers repeatedly sexually abused an 11-year-old boy, infected him with HIV and threatened him with death so that he would not report them.

Last year the minor was diagnosed with the disease and in this situation he himself recounted the harassment he suffered from the four men who were his neighbors.

The little boy died on June 11 at a hospital in Santa Cruzafter a week in intensive care.
