The suspect, who is still on the run, used a “high-capacity rifle” to fire into the crowd in a “very random”, “very intentional” act on a “very sad” day, he added Christopher Covelli of the Lake County Police, to which Highland Park belongs.

The shooting has left at least six dead and two dozen injured.Covelli explained.
The gun the suspect used was found on the roof from which he fired. and from which he managed to flee. “Everything indicates that it was very discreet and that it was difficult to see it,” Covelli detailed.

The suspect has been described as a white man between 18 and 20 years old with long black hair, a small build and wearing a white or blue t-shirt, according to the Police, who have asked for citizen collaboration to arrest the author of the shooting.
The authorities are giving press conferences every half hour or every hour to offer new information to the public.
According to O’Neil, At around 10:14 local time (15:14 GMT), officers rushed to the parade to help the wounded after loud gunshots were heard.
The shooting sent dozens of people running scared by the sound of gunfire, videos from the Chicago Sun Times show.

Several authorities had attended the parade, including the governor of Illinois, Democrat Jay Robert “JB” Pritzker, and Democratic legislator Brad Schnider.
Highland Park is a residential area located about 40 kilometers from Chicago where some 30,000 people live, according to the 2020 census.
