January 12, 2022. The prime minister says he attended a meeting during a lockdown
Johnson says he attended a Downing Street garden meeting on May 20, 2020, but believed it was a work event.
Broadcaster ITV says the senior adviser who organized the event signed an email invitation saying “bring your own drink”.
January 14, 2022. Prime Minister apologizes outside Buckingham Palace
Johnson’s office apologizes to Queen Elizabeth after it emerged that staff were partying in Downing Street on the eve of her husband Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021, when indoor gatherings were banned .
January 24, 2022. Report on Johnson’s birthday meeting
ITV says as many as 30 people attended an event in June 2020 where Johnson was treated to a cake while his wife led staff in singing “Happy Birthday”. Johnson’s office confirms that the staff got together briefly after a work meeting, but denies it was a party.
January 31, 2022. Researcher publishes the first conclusions about the parties
Senior official Sue Gray releases a limited report on the parties, restricted by the ongoing police investigation. She condemns some of the government’s behavior as “hardly justifiable” and says that some of the events should not have happened. Johnson apologizes.
