USA: Richmond Police Say They Foiled 4th of July Mass Shooting, Arrested Two Men

Richmond police said Wednesday they foiled a shooting during July 4 celebrations in this eastern city. USAthe same day that a man killed seven people in a parade in a Chicago suburb.

According to the police chief of RichmondGerald Smith, a person reported to the police that he had heard a conversation about a plan to attack Dogwood Dellthe great city park where thousands of people were going to congregate to attend concerts and fireworks Monday, holiday to be United States Independence Day.

The phone call led police on July 1 to a home where they found one of the two men potentially involved, with two assault rifles, a handgun, multiple magazines and 223 rounds of ammunition.

The person, identified as a non-U.S. citizen, Julio Alvardo-Dubon52, was arrested for possession of firearms.

The second suspect Rolman Balcarcel38, was arrested July 5 on the same charges.

“His intent was to carry out a mass shooting during the 4th of July celebrations,” Smith told reporters. He added that the motive is unknown.

Smith praised the unidentified person who tipped off police in Richmondabout 153 kilometers from Washington, the capital of USA.

“It is not known how many lives this citizen hero has saved with a phone call”Smith said.

Meanwhile, the town of Highland Parkin Illinois, is still shocked by the massacre on Monday in which 7 people died and 30 others were injured when they were shot by a man armed with an assault rifle.

Robert Crimo21, confessed to the attack and told police he considered committing a second shooting in another city while on the run, authorities said.
