What is known about Wesley Brownlee, the suspect arrested for serial murders in California

Mystery almost solved. the police of California captured a 43-year-old man suspected of committing serial murders on Saturday in the city of Stockton, five of them this year and one in 2021. The man was identified as Wesley Brownlee, 43. The motives that led him to perpetrate the crimes are unknown.

According to Police Chief Stanley McFadden, the detainee Wesley Brownlee was “on the hunt” for another potential victim.

“We are sure that we prevented another murder”McFadden assured. He added that Brownlee had a firearm at the time of his arrest.

The suspect has a criminal record, some related to serious driving offenses (such as driving under the influence) and other crimes in the Stockton area, although local court records did not allow to see in detail the case.

For his part, Mayor Kevin Lincoln said he shed tears of relief after being told the suspect had been taken into custody around 2 a.m. Saturday.

The mayor thanked residents for the hundreds of tips they provided to investigators, which ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.

The arrest

Police had been searching for a man dressed in black who was caught on video at several of the crime scenes in Stockton, where five men were ambushed and shot to death between July 8 and September 27 this year. Four of the victims were walking and another was in a parked vehicle.

At dawn on Saturday, the suspect was already in the sights of the police, who were following him. At one point, the agents realized that he seemed to be going after another victim, so they decided to intervene and arrest him, before endangering the life of another person.

“We are sure that we stopped a new homicide”the police chief told the press.

The victims

Five men in the area Stockton they were killed between July 8 and September 27, and these deaths have a number of similarities. Another man was killed in Oakland, about 50 miles away, in April 2021.

The age of the victims ranged from 21 to 54 years.

A woman survived a shooting believed to have been carried out by Brownlee.

When did the murders restart?

On July 8, around 12:30 in the morning, it was murdered Paul Alexander Yaw, 35, in the 5600 block of Kermit Lane. He is the only one of those killed who is not Hispanic.

According to Univisión, his mother, nurse Greta Bogrow, told social networks that her son was a father. She described him as “a sweet boy who became a man with a good heart.” He had been living on the street for five years.

On August 11, Salvador Debudey Jr. was shot dead. 43 years old. It happened in the 4900 block of West Lane. She had a little daughter. His wife, Analydia López, to whom he had been married for 12 years, said she was devastated. “A part of me died with him that day,” she told a local channel.

August 30th, the murderer ended the life of Jonathan Hernández Rodríguez, 21, the youngest of the victims. Residents of an apartment complex on East Hammer Lane and Tam O’Shanter Drive, where Jonathan lived, found him dead inside his car.

His mother, Viridiana Rodríguez, has asked anyone with information about her son’s death to speak to the police.

What were the motives for the murders?

Investigators are trying to identify a motive for the attacks. Police said some victims were homeless, but not all. None were beaten or robbed, and the woman who survived said her attacker said nothing.
