South Korean Army Says North Korea Fired ‘Unspecified Ballistic Missile’

North Korea fired “an unspecified ballistic missile,” the latest in a series of the country’s weapons tests, the U.S. military said on Friday. South Koreawhich recently warned of preparations for a nuclear test.

North Korea fired an unspecified ballistic missile at the East Seaalso known as sea of Japanindicated the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Koreawho did not provide further details.

With negotiations on the peninsula long stalled, tensions rose this year with the military test series of the country led by Kim Jong Unwhich recently declared “irreversible” its status as a nuclear power.

On Tuesday, the South Korean president, Yoon Suk-yeolsaid the North was preparing for its seventh nuclear test.
