Putin asks Ukraine to ensure the safety of maritime traffic

The Russian President, Vladimir Putinasked on Monday Ukraine to ensure the safety of ships using the grain export corridor, accusing kyiv of being a “threat” following an attack on the Russian fleet in Crimea on Saturday.

“Ukraine must ensure that there will be no threat to the safety of civilian ships”declared Putin during a press conference, accusing Kyiv of having used the aforementioned corridor to carry out an attack that led Moscow to suspend the agreement on Ukrainian exports.

“This attack was launched by Ukraine against ships of the Black Sea fleet (…) They created a danger to our ships and civilian ships,” he added.

The Russian president stressed that Moscow had not withdrawn from the agreement on grain exports, but had only “discontinued” your participation.

This agreement, signed in July under the auspices of the UN and Turkey, allowed the export of millions of tons of grain blocked in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of the Russian offensive in February.

Moscow suspended its participation in the agreement on Saturday after denouncing an attack on its fleet in Crimea and attributing it to Ukraine and to United Kingdom.

kyiv claimed that Moscow used “a false pretext” to suspend the deal, while London denied any involvement in the attack.
