According to initial information, the explosion, which affected several buildings, was caused by a gas leak.

Television images and videos posted on social networks showed damage to several floors, with glass breaking and damage to the structure.
Police units, firefighters and rescuers moved to the scene, where dozens of people were evacuated, some to various hospitals.
Meanwhile, traffic was cut off on several surrounding streets.
The Government Minister, Roger Tejada, reported that the firefighters are removing “the elderly, older adults and some families who have not left the apartments out of fear.”
