British minister resigns after being accused of ‘immoral’ behavior

the british minister Gavin-Williamson announced his resignation from the new Conservative government on Tuesday following accusations of “immoral” behavior and sending inappropriate messages to deputies and former colleagues.

“As you know, there is an ongoing claim process regarding text messages I sent to a colleague” Williamson, Minister of State without Portfolio, wrote in a letter to the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and shared on Twitter.

His resignation, the first of the new conservative government formed a fortnight ago, comes after a series of revelations about insulting and threatening messages he would have sent.

In particular, he would have insulted Wendy Morton, a former “whip” (the deputy in charge of party discipline in parliament) by email to complain that he had not been invited to Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Others accuse him of harassment when he was in the Ministry of Defense and of “immoral” behavior when he himself was the “whip”.

The appointment of Gavin-Williamson46 years old, in the cabinet of Sunak had raised doubts.

Williamson He had already been fired twice, first under Theresa May for a document leak and then under Boris Johnson during the pandemic.

Rishi Sunak, who on Tuesday reiterated his confidence in his minister, said at night that he accepted his resignation “with great sadness” but that the “understood”.
