US nuclear engineer and his wife sentenced for selling submarine secrets

A naval nuclear engineer American and his wife were sentenced to lengthy prison terms on Wednesday for conspiring to sell submarine secrets to a foreign country.

According to court documents, Diana Toebbe acted as a lookout while her husband provided highly classified information on underwater nuclear technology to a foreign buyer in a series of “secret deliveries” around his residence in Annapolis, Maryland.

The foreign buyer was not identified, but The New York Times, citing people familiar with the investigation, said he was from Brazil.

Diana Toebbe, a private school teacher, initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of conspiracy to communicate restricted data.
