Rockets in Poland: Macron ‘got in contact’ with Warsaw and is considering ‘discussion’ at G20

Emmanuel Macron “contacted the Polish authorities” after reports of two Russian missiles that were supposed to hit NATO member Poland and “keeps his finger on the pulse of the situation,” Elysium said Tuesday evening.

“He is exploring the possibility of a leader-level discussion tomorrow morning” to “analyze the risks” and “prevent the escalation of the conflict”, “given the presence of all our main European partners and our main allied partners in the G20” meeting at the summit in Indonesia, the French chair added.

The second day of the G20, this Wednesday, “will be an important moment to draw attention to our main partners, as the President of the Republic has done since the beginning of the war,” the Elysee Palace noted.

“Poland can count on the solidarity of France”

At the National Assembly, Secretary of State Sonja Backes conveyed to MPs a message from Prime Minister Elisabeth Born: “The government, together with our Polish allies, is following the situation on the ground very closely.”

“In any case, Poland can count on the solidarity of France, and we will keep you informed as information becomes available,” she said. Several deputies asked to be informed about this in real time, on the sidelines of the consideration of the security bill.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday accused Russia of firing missiles at NATO member Poland, calling the alleged attack, which has yet to be confirmed, a “very significant escalation.” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki convenes the National Security Council on Tuesday evening.
