Residential building fire in western China kills at least 10

At least ten people died and nine were injured in a fire in a residential building in the city of urumqicapital of the province of xinjiang (west), reports the state news agency Xinhua today.

The fire started at around 7:49 p.m. local time on Thursday (11:49 GMT) on the 15th floor and quickly spread to the 17th floor of the building, located in a housing complex in the city’s Tianshan district.

At 10:35 p.m. local time (14:35 GMT) the firefighters and the rescue team had completed the rescue operations and extinguished the flames.

After an investigation carried out in the house where the fire originated and the statements of several affected neighbors, it was preliminarily determined that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the power panel in the family’s bedroom.

The nine injured, whose lives are not in danger, were transferred to hospitals.
