A young woman in the United States is prohibited from attending the execution of her father

A 19-year-old American woman will not be allowed to watch her father’s execution, after a judge upheld a law of Missouri which establishes that he is too young for it.

kevin johnson will be executed on Tuesday by the murder of a police officer which he committed in 2005, when he was 19 years old.

He had requested that his daughter attend, Khorry Ramey.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had filed an emergency motion on his behalf, arguing that the state law violated his constitutional rights.

The organization maintains that the age requirement in Missouri law, which prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from witnessing an execution, had no security purpose.

Racism

Johnson, 37, has been in prison since Ramey was two years old.

The father and his daughter built a bond through visits, phone calls, letters, and emails. Last month, Ramey brought her newborn son to the prison to meet her grandfather.

“I am heartbroken that I will not be able to be with my dad in his final moments,” Ramey said in a statement, adding that her father had worked hard to rehabilitate himself in prison and was praying for clemency from the Missouri governor.

Johnson was found guilty of the fatal shooting of Missouri police officer William McEntee, a father of three.

Johnson’s lawyers have filed appeals to save his life.

Although they do not question his guilt, they argue that the racism played a role in the death penalty sentence.
