Ukrainian soldiers killed in war would be up to 13,000, says Zelensky adviser

Up to 13,000 soldiers ukrainians have died since the Russian invasion in February, an aide to the president told reporters Volodymyr Zelensky.

“We have official estimates from the General Staff (…) that go from 10,000 (…) to 13,000 deaths”stated Mikhailo Podoliak on Thursday to Channel 24 of local television.

He indicated that Zelensky would publish the official data.s “at the right time.”

In June, when Russian forces seized control of the eastern Lugansk region, Zelensky said Ukraine was losing “From 60 to 100 soldiers a day, killed in action, and about 500 wounded in action.”

In September, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that 5,937 Russian soldiers had been killed in almost seven months of fighting.

Both sides are suspected of minimizing their casualties so as not to affect the morale of their soldiers.

In November, the head of the US joint chiefs of staff, Mark Milley, claimed that more than 100,000 Russian servicemen had been killed or wounded in Ukraine, and that Kiev’s forces would have suffered similar casualties.

The figures provided by Milley, which could not be verified, are the most accurate the United States has given so far.

Thousands of Ukrainian civilians have been killed in the fighting, the worst Europe has seen in decades.
