Documents seized from Trump: the appeals court strikes at him

Another failure of Donald Trump. A US Court of Appeals overturned a previous court decision appointing an independent expert to examine documents seized by the federal police (FBI) from his Florida home.

Judges of the Federal Court of Appeals in Atlanta unanimously overturned a Florida judge’s appointment of an expert ruling that temporarily barred federal investigators from using documents in a crime investigation.

On August 8, the FBI raided Donald Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, seizing boxes of thousands of confidential documents, some of which were classified as secret, that the Republican did not return after leaving the White House, despite numerous requests.

Federal investigators suspect the Republican of violating the American espionage law, which strictly regulates the possession of confidential documents. Donald Trump assured that these documents were declassified.

On Thursday, an appeals court ruled that the Aug. 8 search and seizure was not illegal and that a Florida judge did not have the authority to restrict the Justice Department, which is investigating, from reviewing those documents.

His decision releases Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed in November by Attorney General Merrick Garland, to investigate Donald Trump and his role in the events leading up to the US Capitol storming, supporters, January 6, 2021.
