“I toast to a bright future and to 2026 back here at home,” he said in reference to the next World Cup, which will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The president has been very active in recent weeks to encourage the national team.

For example, Biden called out the US players before their group stage debut.

“Coach, put me on because I’m ready to play,” the president began joking.

“I know that you are the ‘underdog’ (the one who has to lose, the one who is not a favorite). But they have some of the best players in the world on their team and they are representing this country, ”Biden added then, asking them to trust each other and leave everything on the field.

In addition, before the round of 16 game, Biden also shared a video this Saturday in which he simulated receiving a ball hit from Qatar by Tyler Adams at the White House.

“It’s called ‘soccer’. Come on, USA,” said the president, alluding to the fact that in his country the term “soccer” is reserved for American football.

With goals from Memphis Depay, Daley Blind and Denzel Dumfries, the Netherlands defeated the USA, whose only goal this Saturday was signed by Haji Wright, and will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Australia in the quarterfinals.
